Bargaining Dates Schedule for the Fall

A quick note to let you know new bargaining dates have finally been set for this fall – the full week of 23 November.

You will recall from our last bulletin that bargaining had stalled out earlier this year. This was because most of the non-monetary items had been sorted and the remaining proposals had financial implications.

The Employer team told us they had no financial mandate from the new government and weren’t going to bargain monetary items until YG bargaining had concluded. YG bargaining talks broke down in June. And the conciliation process for that group is expected to resume later this fall as well.

As you know, work on the Health Authority has been suspended and it’s on hold. Because the timelines for a new Authority have been postponed for the foreseeable future, the complex discussions the team had been preparing (including monetary items) can now be deferred to the next round of bargaining, although certain protections will still have to be included in this contract.

Even though this has been a painfully extended round of bargaining, the team is still counting on you for your support as we move into the next stage of negotiations.

A good way to support your bargaining team and your local is to increase a visible and active Union presence in the workplace. Step up for your coworkers by:

  • Volunteering to run for a position on the local executive
  • Volunteering to be a Union steward
  • Wearing buttons, t-shirts, lanyards or other Union gear
  • Attending Union information meetings
  • Updating your contact information

In Solidarity,

Your bargaining team

Darlene, Laura, Leah, Val, Erna and Ted.
