Your Language Rights at Work

In the Yukon, we speak dozens of languages at home. From the many First Nations Languages to Tagalog, our members represent the diversity that is Canada. But what about at work? Some members may speak languages other than English when serving clients, tourists, patients, and their families. Can the employer insist that workers speak English (or another language) on the job? What can you and your co-workers do to maintain solidarity when there may be language-based divisions at work?

At this month's Round Table, we will discuss our language-related rights and how we build unity in our workplaces. Representatives from the Human Rights Commission will join us to talk about their brief and then we will discuss our issues at work.

Join us! Not a Shop Steward? No problem -any members can participate in union educational activities with no loss in pay. RSVP (red button below) to let us know that you are coming.
