Here is a list of common grievances we see. If a member has an issue you are unsure of how to handle or if you are the right person for the job, ask your Shop Steward Coordinator at [email protected]
Shop Stewards:
Most pre-grievance matters and initial level grievances including but not limited to:
- Leave request (vacation, special, sick, LWOP) denied
- Overtime allocated unevenly
- Overtime, Acting Pay, Shift Premium or other payments are withheld
- Inappropriate or excessive discipline (when it does not involve suspension or dismissal)
- Increase or decrease in workload
- Change in shift without adequate notice
- Failure to provide a current statement of duties
- Failure to complete annual review, Personal Performance Plan
- Manager performing bargaining unit work
- Unfair scheduling, call-ins for casuals or auxiliaries
- Violating OH&S standards
- Personal conflicts
- Competition appeals (except YG)

YEU Labour Relations Advisor:
Final level grievances, policy grievances, discrimination matters, complex cases specifically but not limited to:
- 3rd Level grievances (Hearings)
- Some 2nd Level grievances (depending on how many levels there are in your Collective Agreement)
- Inapropriate or excessive discipline involving a suspension or dismissal
- Serious interpersonal conflicts involving harassment or bullying
- Discrimination due to a protected characteristic (gender, sexual orientation, religion, family status etc)
- Failure to accomodate a disability, family satus, or other protected Human Rights ground
- Appealing an unsuccessful job competition (YG only)
- Policy grievances and most grievances involving a group of members

NOTE: Classification appeals, matters referred to adjudication/arbitration, and advice, assistance and representation with pensions and disability matters get referred to PSAC Representatives through YEU.
