Yukon Employees’ Union is located on the Traditional Territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and Ta'an Kwäch'än Council.
As an organization we are moving forward with actions of reconciliation. Our largest room is a meeting space dedicated to the late Elder Lucy Jackson. It is adorned with a carving by local artist Blake Nelson Shaá'koon Lepine.
On September 30th, we ask people to think about the power and respect of using names properly, and the relationship between indigenous peoples and land. Canada is engaged in a reckoning as unmarked graves across the country are discovered. The Yukon will be joining the somber process of discovery soon.
The land that we live on is home and keeper of many Indigenous lives. As an organization and group of people who occupy these lands, we know that we can and must honour those whose names and identities have been forgotten or erased.
We may not know the names of those who will be found - so we will respect and honour them with the First Nations and communities who receive those who are found again. We will hold space for YEU members to grieve and celebrate those lives.
