Trusteeship Town Hall Oct 1st, New Deputy Trustees Announcement & Triennial Convention Update

We are excited to announce Darlene Potter and Dan Bader as the new Deputy Trustees for the Yukon Employees' Union (YEU).

Potter, a Local Y025 Shop Steward, is a Manitoba Métis who works at the Whitehorse General Hospital Surgical Unit and brings years of experience in time-sensitive, high-pressure environments, including over 7 years as a Shop Steward at her workplace. She has always made time to step up and protect her co-workers' rights whenever called upon. Bader, Local Y027 President, brings years of policy experience and is always willing to take on duties as a Shop Steward to stand up for his co-workers; before joining YEU in 2018, he successfully organized his workplace under the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 310 in Whitehorse.

Trustee Josée-Anne Spirito has tasked the Deputy Trustees with starting the important work of rebuilding Local capacity. You will be seeing many work site visits and outreach to your Locals over the coming months.

"Our new Deputy Trustees have done incredible work representing workers as Shop Stewards and Union Activists for years, and I am excited to see these members step up to make our union strong," said Spirito, YEU Trustee.

Shop Stewards are on the front lines, protecting your rights in the workplace. Involving rank-and-file members who understand their peers' daily struggles is crucial to strengthening our union.

The Trustee shall work with the Deputy Trustees to establish regular membership communications on the work underway to engage members.

Triennial Convention Update

We also have confirmation that the triennial convention will take place in the spring of 2027.

Over the coming weeks, we will send callout letters to over 20 Local Presidents across the territory. To attend the Triennial Convention, you must be elected as a delegate by your Local. Please get in touch with your Local President if you would like to become a delegate.

The convention will have over a hundred grassroots union activists from across the territory. You are the union, and we hope you get involved. This highly anticipated event will be a fantastic opportunity for elected delegates to participate in informative sessions, engaging discussions, and networking.

Together, we can exchange ideas, build connections, and shape our union's future.

Trusteeship FAQ

You are represented — no matter what

Every YEU member continues to be represented by their union. That has not changed and will not change.

  • All rights, protections, and benefits under your collective agreement remain fully in place.
  • Your Local officers and YEU Labour Relations Advisors continue to provide representation. Local Executives remain in their positions.
  • YEU staff remain in their roles, and service to members continues as normal.

If you have a problem at work, a question about your collective agreement, or need to file a grievance, contact your Local officer or your union exactly as you always have. Nothing about that process has changed.

Bargaining is not affected.

None of these developments have interrupted collective bargaining, and they will not under any circumstances.

Negotiations with multiple employers, including Yukon Government, remain a top priority for PSAC, and the resources bargaining teams need to reach the agreements members deserve will be in place.

For Yukon Government bargaining, all three conciliation board members have been appointed, and hearing dates are finalized for late October 21, 22 and 23. Members should keep following bargaining updates by email and on this website, and keep standing with their bargaining teams.
