Yukon Employees’ Union welcomes Senior Labour Relations Advisor, Keith Smyth. Keith joined our team in February of 2023.
Keith is a red-seal certified journeyman in both agricultural equipment and heavy equipment, born and raised on a mixed dryland farm in Southwest Alberta.
Keith has worked in the trade in many capacities and has enjoyed being able to have worked in a trade area that includes all northwest American states and all of western Canada.
Keith has been a tenured faculty at Olds College for 17 years teaching certificate, Diploma, apprenticeship as well as Industry training. Keith also served as Associate Dean/Coordinator, Olds College School of Trades.
Keith has done international program development/equipment and facility procurement with Colleges and Institutes Canada developing programs and pedagogical practices with institutes in Kenya, specific to agriculture and agricultural machinery. He has also consulted with the Kenyan government to develop their first Occupational Health and Safety Legislation.
Keith holds both a diploma and master’s degree in leadership (organizational behavior).
Keith is Past Vice-President, Professional Affairs with Alberta Colleges and Institutes Faculties Association as well as Past President, Olds College Faculty Association and has chaired many other committees including but not limited to, bargaining, ethics, grievance, professional practices, professional development committees, and many more.
Keith enjoys both hunting and fly fishing in his spare time and hopes to explore the Yukon thoroughly. He also enjoys donating time to community service and volunteer with projects such as hospice society, and projects involving wildlife and land-based research projects.
Keith has two adult kids who are out taking on the world and a rescue greyhound who really, really, really doesn’t like winter. 😊
