Complaints and Appeals

Yukon Employees’ Union strives to be a respectful and inclusive organization for employees, union members, and the public. We are committed to ensuring safe spaces free from bullying and harassment or threatening behaviours of any kind.  Actions and behaviours that are discriminatory, harassing, intimidating, or violent will not be tolerated.

A complaints process has been initiated to allow members and staff to seek recourse should they feel the need to question a decision or address concerning behaviour.

How to appeal a grievance merit decision:

If a Shop Steward or member disagrees with the decision of a YEU Labour Relations Advisor not to proceed with a grievance and they would like to appeal the decision, they should contact the Executive Director to discuss their concerns. A written submission will be required to properly document and investigate the situation.  Complaints can be submitted by email or by using the online form at the bottom of this page.

Where the issue is a decision not to advance a grievance to the next level and the member or Shop Steward would like to appeal, the Executive Director will assess the position(s) of the member/Shop Steward and the Labour Relations Advisor (with the Senior Labour Relations Advisor, where appropriate) to determine if the no-merit decision will stand.

If resolution or satisfaction is not obtained, the member/Shop Steward should contact the YEU President, Vice President, or Vice-President, Communities. A written submission will be required to properly document and investigate the situation.

How to file a complaint against a YEU staff member:

If a member wishes to file a complaint against a YEU staff member, they should contact the Executive Director to discuss their concerns. If the complaint is against the Executive Director, the member/Shop Steward should contact the YEU President, Vice President, or Vice-President, Communities. Again, we require a written submission to properly document and investigate the complaint. Complaints can be submitted by email or by using the online form at the bottom of this page.

Should a YEU staff member wish to file a complaint arising from their interactions with a member or a Shop Steward, their complaint must be submitted in writing to the Executive Director who will then share those concerns with the YEU President, Vice President, or Vice President, Communities.

All reports of harassment, bullying and violence are taken very seriously. Repeated infractions by any party will be addressed in accordance with the YEU/PSAC Bylaws, appropriate Local Bylaws, relevant YEU Staffing Policies, Collective Agreements, or legislation.
