Shop stewards are often asked to help their co-workers navigate some very stressful situations, like attending meetings with management that could lead to discipline, or helping co-workers resolve inter-personal conflict. Having a friendly ally present in those situations is a tremendous benefit to our members, but it can also take a toll on you as a shop steward.
At this Round Table we will discuss two sorts of concerns. First, we will look at strategies to support members in situations like these, including clear and empathetic communications and maintaining professional boundaries. Second, we will consider the importance of self-care, avoiding burnout, and peer support networks for you as stewards.
Our goal will be to become aware of some warning signs and create some strategies to help protect your own mental wellness. We hope to see you there.
YEU Shop Stewards are entitled to paid leave from work in order to attend union training.
