Julie has lived in the Yukon Territory for 21 years and has been involved in organized labour for 18 years at the Local, Component, Regional, and National levels.
Julie’s career path started as a paralegal in private law firms. In 1990, she joined the Public Service as an Adjudicator at Workers Compensation Health and Safety Board for the Yukon government. From 1995 to 2000, Julie was seconded to the Yukon Employees' Union as a Service Officer and Union Advisor. These years significantly enhanced and developed her skills towards activism in the labour movement.
Upon her return to the Department of Justice as the Workers’ Advocate in 2000, Julie became more politically active in her union. In 2000 she was elected to the Yukon Employees' Union Component Executive as a Director. She continues to hold that position today. One of her responsibilities is as the Chair of the Education Committee. Julie is a firm believer in union education stating, “We must keep our skills strong and our commitment alive”.
Julie has served as the President of the Yukon Area Council, which is the political wing for PSAC North. She is also the 1st Vice-President at the Yukon Federation of Labour which is the territorial branch of the Canadian Labour Congress.
She has spent the last 20 years of her career fighting for workers' rights in the workplace and advocating for the rights of injured workers.
This past June, Julie was elected as the Alternate Regional Executive Vice-President for PSAC North Region. In the fall of 2010, she represented the region at the PSAC Northern Women’s Conference in Ottawa. |
